Since everything worked as smooth as silk on the previous Pi I am mystified as to where to look to find out what mistakes I've made in rebuilding the NAS. I was failing to upload or download using filezilla from a PC (which I used a million times locally and WAN with the previous version of Raspbian).Įventually I found the 'continue failed xfers' setting and now they limp to completion after timing out and resetting every 20 seconds or so.Ĭonnection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivityįATAL ERROR: Network error: Software caused connection abort The network is LAN, with WiFi and Bluetooth turned off.Įver since building this system I have been having massive problems with file access. I set up some cron jobs to rsynch between pairs of drives I setup disk mounts using UUIDs in fstab, and SAMBA shares I rebuilt my system from Buster distro, enabling SAMBA, enabled VNC and FTP (with SSH) This is connected to 6 'portable' multi terabyte drives. The hardware config is a 4GB Rpi4 with a brand new 3.0 powered hub that doesn't prevent the Pi from booting up, like the previous cheap ones did. So I decided to treat myself to a Pi4 / Buster upgrade. I connect with SAMBA and/or SFTP which has been superbly smooth (if a little slow on pi3). I've been running a NAS based on powered USB drives (currently ~24TB total) on Pi3s for several years.
